NZ smoking ban plans abandoned

New Zealand have abandoned plans to bring in ground breaking smokefree legislation next year.

Reacting to the news, Greg Fell, ADPH President, said:

“New Zealand has led the way in understanding the important role legislation plays in protecting public health and today’s news represents a serious setback for its residents, who were due to become the first people in the world to live in a smokefree country.

“We are very pleased to see that the UK Government has this morning emphasised its commitment to the stopping the start tobacco legislation announced in the King’s Speech earlier this month, and we will continue to do everything we can to help make it become a reality.”
