ADPH responds to Government announcement on Major Conditions Strategy

We have long advocated for a health-care system which emphasises the promotion and preservation of good health.

Prof. Jim McManus
President ADPH

ADPH very much welcomes today’s announcement to develop and publish a Major Conditions Strategy with cross government input and support.

The focus on reducing health inequalities and the role that local government has to play in supporting the increasing numbers of people living with multiple conditions is particularly welcome.

However, what is not clear, is whether this new strategy will link to the long-awaited Health Disparities White Paper which is needed to address the issue of improving outcomes and reducing health inequalities across all policies and we urge the Government to commit to publishing the paper as soon as possible so that a considered, joined-up approach can be taken that puts health at the heart of all Government departments.

We have long advocated for a health-care system which emphasises the promotion and preservation of good health. Directors of Public Health have a wealth of experience and skills in this area, working collaboratively with partners across local government and the community sector every day to help people live longer, healthier lives and we are ready to work with the Secretary of State to ensure that this new strategy encompasses all the issues.
